Bangladesh-India Cricket Series May Be Rescheduled, Official Announcement Awaited

Bangladesh-India

Bangladesh-India: India was supposed to visit Bangladesh in August to play a three-match ODI and T20 series. But due to the ongoing political unrest in the two countries, it has become practically uncertain. The Indian government is not willing to send a cricket team to Bangladesh at the moment, BBC Bangla reported. As a result, it is feared that the BCB will suffer due to the postponed tour.

Although there has been no official word yet on the postponement of the Bangladesh-India series. The BCCI has not even directly announced that it will not be coming to Dhaka. However, BBC Bangla reported that according to several top government sources in Delhi, the BCCI has not received the green light from the central government to tour Bangladesh. However, even if the series between the two countries is not happening now, there is a possibility that the schedule will be rescheduled again later.

Meanwhile, sports-based website Cricbuzz reported that there is some certainty that India is not coming at the moment because the BCB has stopped selling media rights. The technical auction of the media rights is scheduled for July 7 and the financial auction is scheduled to be held on July 10. The BCB is quite optimistic about the India series because such a series is an irresistible money-making opportunity for any cricket board. If not this time, the series may be rescheduled later.

Meanwhile, BCB will take the next step after getting an idea about the series from BCCI. A BCB official told Cricbuzz about the matter, “The schedule for the India series has not been finalized yet. BCCI has said that it is difficult for them to tour Bangladesh in August. The series is part of the FTP (ICC’s Future Tour Program).” He also said that an official announcement on the Bangladesh-India series will be made within a week. According to the previous plan, the series was supposed to be held from August 17-31.

Regarding the sale of media rights, a BCB official told Cricbuzz, “We will take time to study the market. There is no rush. We can make different deals (for different series).” Apart from this, regarding the media rights, the Indian broadcasting company told Cricbuzz, “They (BCB) have informed that the India series is not happening for now. Despite giving a notice of the media rights, they are not accepting tender invitations. So for now, they have decided to sell the media rights of the Pakistan series.”

Initially, the BCB had planned to sell the media rights for the series on the FTP schedule for a period of two years. Which would have been effective from July 2025 to June 2027. But in the event of the postponement of the India series, the possibility of an auction in the long term is unlikely. As a result, the BCB will go ahead with only the Pakistan series. Bangladesh and Pakistan will play a three-match T20 series between July 17-25.
